Dr. Aaron Beck developed the basic theoretical foundations of cognitive therapy. This book analyzes anger and hostility from a cognitive point of view, and suggests some of the underlying cognitive distortions responsible for violent behavior, both individual and group.  Designed for professionals, this book incorporates a philosophical tone as it presents a cognitive assessment of acts ranging from individual violence to terrorist behavior to genocide.  An important psychological perspective on violence.

Anger: How to Live With and Without It.
by Albert Ellis. Paperback. (March 1986).
Albert Ellis developed Rational Emotive Therapy, years before Dr. Beck presented his ideas about Cognitive Therapy. Based on rational thinking, this is also a cognitive therapy. While the book has been out for a few years, it presents an excellent plan for dealing with anger.

by Carol Tavris. Paperback - 383 pages Revised edition (October 1989)
This book covers a broad spectrum of anger issues, include highway anger (road rage) and violence in sports.  It tells you how to make adaptive choices in dealing with anger.  It is well written, and has been rated highly by many mental health professionals.
