In addition to psychologists, there are several other professions which also provide therapeutic treatment to individuals with emotional problems. The training, theoretical approach and treatment methods used by
these professions may differ from psychology, but have roots in psychological research.
Other mental health professions would include psychiatry (MD degree and training as a physician), social work (MSW degree), rehabilitation counseling (MA degree and CRC certification), occupational therapy (OT
degree), Marriage and Family therapists (various degrees including Ph.D., MSW, Ed.S), and substance abuse counselors (various degrees with special training in substance abuse).
Information about these careers can be found elsewhere.
